Joanna Hruby
Joanna Hruby is a puppet-maker, sculptress, visual artist and performer from South West England. With a BA(hons) in Theatre Practice - Puppetry from Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London, she is interested in animating the myths and stories which lie at the heart of a landscape like Ibiza. Since permanently relocating to the island in 2015, Joanna founded her company Theatre of the Ancients and has sculpted a series of giant puppets based on figures from Ibiza's ancient mythology and folklore, including the Goddess Tanit, and the Goats of Es Vedrà. She uses diverse craft- and folk theatre techniques to transform natural, reclaimed and often locally-sourced materials into one-of-a-kind story objects, animating and celebrating the myths which emanate from the natural landscapes we walk upon.
